[Members] Feed the Widows, Orphans, Poor Elderly, Handicapped, and Poor Families this Ramadan

Hidaya Foundation (www.hidaya.org) feeds the weak & deserving through various projects throughout the year.  In the blessed month of Ramadan, Hidaya amplifies this effort to provide meals to such people so they may enjoy the blessings of Fasting under the following projects:

 

One Million Meals:  Distribute Dry Ration or Cooked Meals

Dry Ration costs fifty cents per meals ($50 for 100 meals, $500 for 1,000 meals)

Cooked Food costs on average $50 per pot which consists of 40 kg of cooked rice.

Fidya: For those who are unable to fast (elderly, sick, handicapped, etc.) a compensation must be given by feeding a poor person for every day of fasting not observed.

Per Hadith, to meet the requirement of Fidya in the USA is approximately $3.50 by the Hanafi school of thought, and $7.00 according to the other schools of thought.

Sadaqat-ul-Fitr: Sadaqat-ul-Fitr (also called Zakat-ul-Fitr) is an obligatory charity for every Muslim who possess the Nisab (a minimum amount of wealth); it must be paid before Eid-ul-Fitr (i.e. before the end of Ramadan).  Sadaqat-ul-Fitr is $3.50 according to Hanafi school of thought or $7 according to other major schools of thought for each person in the family.

Kaffara: The prescribed way of making amends for wrong actions is called Kaffara. For exam­ple, if a person promises to do something, but later finds out that he is not in a position to keep that pledge, then he/she must pay a Kaffara.  There are various types of Kaffara which you should consult with Scholars for further information.

Sadaqah in the form of Sacrifice: Sacrifice is usually performed within 72 hours of receipt of donation. Sadaqah meat is distributed to the needy. It costs $100 for a goat/sheep, and $350 for an ox/buffalo.
