National Assembly approved to rename the NWFP as Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw with majority of votes, Geo News reported Thursday.

The members of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) suggested to the House the amendments in Section-3 of the Bill relating the name of the NWFP. However, Chairman Constitutional Reforms Committee of the Parliament Mian Raza Rabbani baulked at the proposals. The name of Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw was adopted with 264 votes of support. At least 20 votes were against the new proposed name. 
The Assembly adopted unanimously the Section-2 of the Constitutional Reforms Bill (Eighteenth Amendment)relating the elimination of the 17th Amendment. The House also adopted the Amendment to eliminate the LFO.
The members of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) suggested to the House the amendments in Section-3 of the Bill relating the name of the NWFP. However, Chairman Constitutional Reforms Committee of the Parliament Mian Raza Rabbani baulked at the proposals. The abolishment of the 17the Amendment was backed by 258 members with no one declining. Also, the Section-4 of the Bill has been adopted with consensus to amend the Article-6 of the Constitution relating the suspension of the Constitution and its validation by the court later on. Also, the Section-5 of the Bill has been adopted with consensus to amend the Article-10 of the Constitution.
